Odisha Crime Branch arrests man in Rs 3.80 lakh used vehicle sale scam
A case of fraud in the name of selling a used vehicle through social media has come to light in Odisha , with a person allegedly being cheated of Rs 3.80 lakh. The Crime Branch cyber team has arrested one person in connection with the case. According to reports, the accused allegedly created a fraudulent scheme through the Marketplace platform on social media, offering a used vehicle for sale. He reportedly contacted the victim while posing as a recovery agent and gained the victim’s trust by providing details about the vehicle. The accused and his associates allegedly collected Rs 3.80 lakh from the complainant through online transactions on different pretexts. However, after receiving the money, they stopped communicating with the victim. Following the complaint, the Crime Branch cyber team launched an investigation into the alleged online fraud. During the investigation, officials found that the vehicle in question was still lying at the stockyard and had never been sold to the complainant. The Crime Branch is now investigating the case further and working to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the fraud. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the entire network involved in the scam, while further investigation is continuing.
