Department Proposes Reorganisation and Rebalancing of Administrative Offices A meeting was held on 12.08.2026 with the Unions, Secretary (Posts), Member (P) and DDG (Establishment) to discuss the proposed reorganisation and rebalancing of administrative offices in the Department of Posts. During the meeting, the Department outlined several proposals aimed at strengthening the administrative structure and improving monitoring and operational effectiveness. Key Proposals Around 10 new Regional Offices are proposed to be created. Approximately 35 new Divisions and 65–70 new Sub-Divisions are proposed. The proposed reorganisation will be carried out by balancing the existing available manpower , with no additional manpower strength proposed at present. Two new Postal Circles are proposed — one in Maharashtra and another in Uttar Pradesh . At present, Regional Offices have both PMG and DPS posts. Around 46 such posts are proposed to be redeployed and distributed among all Circles. The redeployed manpower is intended to strengthen Business Development (BD) activities and other important functions. The Head of a Region may be either a Postmaster General (PMG) or Director Postal Services (DPS) . Objective of the Reorganisation The Department explained that the proposed restructuring is aimed at strengthening administration, improving effective monitoring and enhancing revenue generation . The redistribution of existing manpower is expected to provide greater administrative support to Circles and strengthen Business Development and other functional areas. The proposed creation of additional Regional Offices, Divisions and Sub-Divisions, along with the establishment of two new Postal Circles, represents a significant restructuring of the Department's administrative setup.
