Pranab College hosts 35th annual function, freshers’ social

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): Pranab College, Dimapur, hosted its 35th Annual Function-cum-Freshers’ Social 2026, marking the institution’s anniversary and welcoming its new students. Principal of Pranab College, Dr Santosh Kumar, delivered the welcome address. He described the occasion as a celebration of the institution’s journey and the beginning of a new chapter.Awards and felicitations were presented to meritorious students for academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and social responsibility. The Governor’s Awards were conferred on Ihecile Siang of the Department of Sociology for Academic Excellence under the Shyama Prasad Mukerjee Award; Kedarai Chewang of the Department of English for Excellence in Extra-Curricular Activities under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Award; and Veronica K. Yeptho of the Department of English for Social Responsibility under the Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay Award.The Best Library User Award 2025-26 was presented to Shenok Chetpa Konyak of the BA 5th Semester, Department of Political Science. Departmental and university-level toppers recognised during the programme included Ihchile Siang of Sociology, who secured a Top 05 position; Pushpa Kumari of Commerce, who secured Top 07; and Rishita Das of Political Science, who secured Top 10 in Nagaland University examinations 2025-26.The college magazine, ‘Pranab Vision,’ was released by the Chief Guest, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur district. This was followed by the launch of “PortalZ”, an online student portal intended to provide Pranab College students with round-the-clock access to academic facilities and information.Addressing the gathering, Dr Chang appreciated the faculty members and encouraged students to maintain a positive attitude towards their studies and responsibilities. He urged them to remain focused on their studies and said success should not be viewed merely as an individual achievement but as a holistic achievement that should ultimately contribute to the betterment of society.The formal programme was followed by cultural presentations, including a Konyak folk song performed by students of Pranab College.President of the Pranab College Student Council, Mughapu Swu, delivered a speech on behalf of the senior students, while Bachong Phom of BA 1st Semester, Department of History, spoke on behalf of the freshers.The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks by Tiatemsu Sangtam, Assistant General Secretary, PCSU.The informal evening session, hosted by Som Kumar and Nungsantsungla Longkumer, began with an invocation by Vinoli Zhimo. It featured Traditional, Casual and Formal rounds, along with performances by freshers and student groups.The performances were judged by Imjungwatila Longkumer, Haisui Meru and Shikna Konyak.The subtitle winners were Menjei Konyak of Education, Miss Multimedia; Zuzuveh Lupu of Political Science, Mr Multimedia; Watimongba of Sociology, Mr Congeniality; Paudilung Domta of Political Science, Miss Congeniality; Neilhao Konyak of Education, Miss Perfect; and Niloka Achumi of History, Mr Perfect.Dinoka Achumi of Political Science was adjudged Mr Freshers, while Menjei Konyak of Education was adjudged Miss Fresher 2026.
