No Discussion Yet on Nagaon Lok Sabha Candidature: Ramakanta Deuri
Assam: Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri on Saturday said there has been no discussion so far regarding his candidature for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha election, asserting that the decision on selecting a candidate rests entirely with the party. Speaking on the issue, Deuri said party workers would support and vote for whichever candidate is chosen by the organisation. "There has been no discussion regarding candidature so far. The decision is entirely with the party. Whoever the party gives the ticket to, we have a responsibility as party workers to vote and strengthen the organisation," he said. The MLA added that his immediate focus was on strengthening the party's position in the Morigaon Assembly constituency and increasing the party's vote margin. Deuri said he was aiming to improve on his previous electoral performance and increase his lead by at least 10,000 votes. "I have to secure more votes than I did in the Assembly election. If God wills, I will increase the margin by 10,000 votes. I had a lead of around 65,000 to 68,000 votes. If I add another 10,000, it will reach around 75,000. I will try to take it to 80,000," he said. Deuri's remarks come amid speculation over potential candidates for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha election. However, the Morigaon MLA maintained that no discussion had taken place so far regarding his candidature and stressed that the party's decision would be final. For now, he said, his priority is to strengthen the party organisation and improve the vote margin in his Assembly constituency. Also Read: Assam-Meghalaya Talks: 15 FIRs Filed Over Shillong Violence
