Motorcycle Rider Critical After Another Accident on NH-27 at Khetri

Guwahati: The National Highway-27 stretch near Khetri , Sonapur , on the outskirts of Guwahati , has turned into a hotspot for road accidents. Another mishap was reported on Friday after a four-wheeler hit a motorcycle, leaving the rider seriously injured. The accident occurred at Khaloibari village under the Dimoria constituency in Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam. According to reports, a passenger car bearing registration number AS 12 H 1074 hit a two-wheeler bearing registration number AS 01 D 0360. As a result of the collision, the rider of the two-wheeler, identified as Indramohan Goswami, sustained serious injuries. Khetri traffic police officials arrived at the scene after receiving information about the accident. The victim was rushed to a medical facility in critical condition. Notably, a major road accident occurred on the same stretch of National Highway-27 last Sunday (August 30), leaving at least seven people dead, including four who were killed on the spot. The mishap was attributed to a large pothole that had developed on the highway, causing the driver of a commercial passenger vehicle to lose control, cross the divider, and collide with an oncoming truck. Soon after the accident, local residents blocked the highway, demanding action over alleged negligence by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in maintaining the road. An emergency meeting held the following day between local representatives of Khetri and authorities focused on fixing responsibility on the NHAI to repair the affected stretch of the highway within seven days. The families of the deceased also received ex-gratia assistance, while police detained two NHAI officials in the immediate aftermath of the accident. However, despite the NHAI's assurance that the road would be repaired within the given timeframe, several mishaps have been reported on the same stretch over the past week. Locals said the poor condition of the road had resulted in an alarming three to four accidents every day.
