Mizoram: Assam Rifles Reacover Methamphetamine Worth Rs 5.59 Crore, Two Held

Assam Rifles , in a joint operation with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Aizawl, seized 6.991 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs 5.59 crore in Mizoram on Saturday. The operation was carried out by Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics in the region. Acting on the intelligence, security personnel intercepted two vehicles at Seling in Mizoram. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 6.991 kg of methamphetamine tablets, a synthetic drug commonly associated with illegal trafficking networks. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation in connection with the suspected narcotics smuggling attempt. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the drugs and identify other persons who may be linked to the trafficking network. The Spear Corps said the operation reflects the continued efforts of security agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating across the Northeast and prevent the movement of illegal narcotics. The latest seizure comes days after another series of anti-narcotics operations conducted by Assam Rifles in coordination with the CRPF and state police. On September 4, security forces seized 10.891 kg of brown sugar valued at around Rs 80 crore and 14,000 yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 2.5 crore during intelligence-based operations in Manipur’s Jiribam and Assam’s Sribhumi district. Six individuals were apprehended in those operations, according to Assam Rifles. Security agencies have intensified intelligence-led operations across the Northeast to curb the trafficking and movement of illegal drugs in the region.
