Kumbharapada murder: Puri Police launch intensive probe to nab accused

Puri Police have launched an intensive investigation into the gruesome murder case in the Kumbharapada area, forming a specialised task force led by the City DSP to apprehend the suspect and trace the sequence of events. The victim’s body has been sent to Puri Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which authorities say will officially establish the cause and exact time of death. According to preliminary police reports, the suspect, identified as Madan Dalei, a native of Paralakhemundi , had been residing in a rented house in Kumbharapada with his elderly mother for the past four to five months. Investigators suspect that Dalei murdered his mother on August 21 and concealed her body beneath a slab in the kitchen. In a further attempt to cover up the crime and contain the odor, he allegedly plastered the surrounding wall with white cement before fleeing the premises. In response, Puri police have intensified efforts to locate Dalei. Investigating officers have seized CCTV footage from the surrounding neighbourhood and circulated photographs of the suspect to all regional police stations. Authorities are also actively tracking Dalei's mobile phone number to trace his movements. "Efforts are underway to apprehend the accused," said Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh.
