India Post LDCE Inspector Posts 2026: Examination Dates, Eligibility, Vacancies and Application Schedule The Department of Posts has issued a notification for the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for promotion to the cadre of Inspector Posts under the 66.66% departmental quota for the vacancy year 2026 . The vacancy year covers the period from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 . 📅 Inspector Posts LDCE 2026 Exam Schedule The examination will be conducted in three papers: Date Paper Timing 26 September 2026 Paper-I 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM 26 September 2026 Paper-II 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM 27 September 2026 Paper-III 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM The examination will be conducted at Circle Headquarters , and candidates must appear at the examination centre of their respective Circle. 📝 Online Application Dates Eligible and willing candidates can submit their applications through the India Post Employee Portal . Online application starts: 21 August 2026 at 9:00 AM Last date for submission: 5 September 2026 up to 5:30 PM Verification by Controlling Authority: By 9 September 2026 Correction and resubmission: By 11 September 2026 Verification of resubmitted applications: By 15 September 2026 Finalisation and centre allotment: By 17 September 2026 Last date for centre allotment: 19 September 2026 Admit card availability: From 22 September 2026 at 5:30 PM 🎯 Eligibility Criteria The notification states that officials with eight years of regular qualifying service as on the crucial date are eligible, subject to the prescribed Recruitment Rules. Eligible categories include: Higher Selection Grade-II (Level-6) Postmaster Grade-II (Level-6) Stenographer Grade-I (Level-6) Lower Selection Grade (Level-5) Postmaster Grade-I (Level-5) Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant (Level-4) Stenographer Grade-II (Level-4) The maximum age limit is 45 years on the crucial date of eligibility. A standard five-year age relaxation for SC/ST officials is applicable as specified in the notification. For the 2026 vacancy year, the crucial date for determining age and service eligibility is 1 January 2026 . 📊 27 Tentative Vacancies The notification indicates 26 tentative vacancies for 2026 , along with 1 backlog PwBD vacancy , making the final tentative vacancy position 27 . The category-wise final tentative position is: UR: 21 SC: 4 ST: 2 PwBD: 1 Total: 27 The notification specifically states that the vacancy position is tentative and subject to finalisation . 🏆 All India-Level Selection An important feature of the 2026 LDCE is that the vacancies will be treated at the All India level . Eligible feeder-grade officials from all Postal Circles can appear irrespective of whether a vacancy is available in their particular Postal Circle. A common merit list will be prepared based on the All India vacancy position. Candidates must also provide their preference of all 23 Postal Circles while submitting the online application. Once submitted, the preference will be treated as final and cannot be changed at a later stage . 🖊️ Examination Mode The examination will be conducted through OMR-based and descriptive methods, wherever applicable . For Paper-II (Descriptive) , candidates can write only in Hindi or English . Answers written in any other language will not be evaluated and will be summarily rejected. 💻 Important Technical Instructions Candidates are advised to verify their details in the Self Service → Employee Profile → View & Raise Request → View Employee Profile , as application information will be fetched from PIS and MDM .
