Former pantry car attendant arrested in Odisha for stealing passengers’ belongings on train

A former pantry car attendant has been arrested by the Berhampur Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly stealing valuables from passengers travelling on trains. Police have reportedly recovered gold ornaments, cash, a laptop and mobile phones from his possession. Accused Held With Gold And Cash The arrested accused has been identified as Kahnu Sahu, a resident of Kulad village under Bhanjanagar police limits. According to police, around 39 grams of gold ornaments, including two gold rings, two pairs of gold earrings and a gold chain, along with Rs 4 lakh in cash, were seized from him. Police also recovered one laptop and three mobile phones from the accused. The recovery was made during the investigation into a theft reported at Berhampur railway station. The passenger subsequently lodged a complaint at the Berhampur GRP police station. During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the railway station and reportedly identified Kahnu Sahu as the suspect. He was subsequently arrested, and the stolen valuables were recovered from his possession. Police said Kahnu had previously worked as a pantry car attendant on the Prashanti Express, which may have given him familiarity with train operations and passengers. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether he was involved in other similar theft cases.
