Assam: In an unusual incident, a group of Class 7 students of Don Bosco School in Assam ’s Dibrugarh injured themselves allegedly by cutting their arms with sharp stationery, according to reports on Friday. As per preliminary information, one student used the blade of a pencil sharpener to make marks on his arm, cutting himself in the process. Subsequently, around 11 other students allegedly attempted similar acts, apparently imitating the first student. Some students were also reported to have used pieces of rulers and other objects in a similar manner. After the incident came to light, school authorities arranged for medical examinations for the students. According to information provided by the school authorities and officials, no student suffered any serious injury. School authorities said the incident occurred during what they described as a game among the students. However, the reason behind the students engaging in such behaviour remains unclear and has raised questions among parents and officials. The matter prompted officials from the Dibrugarh district administration to visit the school and assess the situation. Health officials, an additional deputy commissioner and an ambulance were also present at the school as authorities examined the circumstances surrounding the incident. The district administration has directed that the students involved be counselled. The school has also contacted their parents and initiated arrangements for counselling.
