HYDERABAD: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has rescinded its directive preventing the enrolment of NALSAR University of Law’s graduating 2026 batch, but has retained its request for an inquiry report into persons involved in developments concerning the university’s upcoming convocation. NALSAR vice-chancellor Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao said the university received two BCI letters dated [...] <p data-start="77" data-end="367"><strong data-start="77" data-end="91">HYDERABAD:</strong> The Bar Council of India (BCI) has rescinded its directive preventing the enrolment of NALSAR University of Law’s graduating 2026 batch, but has retained its request for an inquiry report into persons involved in developments concerning the university’s upcoming convocation.</p> <p data-start="369" data-end="489">NALSAR vice-chancellor Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao said the university received two BCI letters dated August 13, 2026.</p> <h3 data-section-id="wjjjer" data-start="491" data-end="551">First BCI letter barred enrolment of graduating students</h3> <p data-start="553" data-end="877">The first letter, bearing reference number BCID 5449/2026, directed that the State Bar Councils not enrol the university’s graduating B.A., LL.B (Hons.) students from the 2026 batch. It also sought an inquiry report from the vice-chancellor on persons involved in the recent developments concerning the upcoming convocation.</p> <p data-start="879" data-end="1061">The university subsequently received another BCI letter, reference number BCID 5450/2026, rescinding the directive to State Bar Councils against enrolment of the graduating students.</p> <h3 data-section-id="z00x1w" data-start="1063" data-end="1129">University to examine constitutional scope of proposed inquiry</h3> <p data-start="1131" data-end="1267">However, the second letter retained the requirement that the vice-chancellor submit an inquiry report on the persons involved, Rao said.</p> <p data-start="1269" data-end="1457">The university will now consider whether conducting such an inquiry would constitute a constitutional exercise of its powers and whether it is permissible under its governance regulations.</p> <p data-start="1459" data-end="1636">To assist it in examining the issue, the matter will be placed before the Executive Council, the university’s highest decision-making body under the statute establishing NALSAR.</p> <p data-start="1638" data-end="1848">Rao said the university would communicate its position to the BCI after completing the consultation process with the Executive Council. The university said these details were also being communicated to the BCI.</p>
