Bajaj Life Insurance turns to ChatGPT as consumer discovery shifts to AI
Bajaj Life Insurance has started advertising on ChatGPT, positioning the move as part of its efforts to explore emerging consumer discovery and research behaviour around financial and protection needs. The insurer said it is among the first brands in India’s BFSI sector to advertise on ChatGPT. India is also among the largest markets for ChatGPT globally outside the US, with more than 100 million weekly active users, according to the company. Speaking about the initiative, Chandramohan Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer, Bajaj Life Insurance, said, “It’s about us being relevant and aligning with changing customer behaviour, which is increasingly leaning towards AI-centred research, discovery and planning for financial and protection needs. This is in line with our efforts to consistently experiment and learn as we work towards our larger goal of making insurance discovery simpler and more customer-centric.” The move comes as AI-based platforms become another channel through which consumers can research products and services. Unlike conventional keyword-based search, conversational interfaces allow users to frame questions in natural language, provide additional context and continue the interaction through follow-up queries. For financial categories such as insurance, this can enable consumers to explore multiple considerations within a single conversation, including coverage requirements, product features and personal circumstances. For brands, the shift creates another environment in which consumers may encounter information and advertising while researching financial products. Bajaj Life Insurance’s ChatGPT advertising initiative therefore adds an emerging AI-led discovery layer to its broader digital marketing efforts, as insurers assess how changing search and research habits could influence the way consumers discover and evaluate financial products.
