Assam: 3 Held in Bongaigaon Over Alleged SIM Card Fraud

Assam: Three persons have been arrested in Assam ’s Bongaigaon district for their alleged involvement in a SIM card fraud network linked to cybercrime , according to a report on Tuesday. According to the initial report, the arrested persons have been identified as Ahmed Ali of Barpathar in Bongaigaon district , Gias Uddin Ahmed of Bartalowa in Chirang district, and Dipen Chandra Roy of Deuripara in Bongaigaon. According to police, the accused had allegedly been involved in collecting identity documents and using them to obtain SIM cards without the knowledge of the individuals concerned. The SIM cards were allegedly supplied to cybercrime groups and used for illegal activities, police said. During the operation, police seized 134 SIM cards, 39 Aadhaar cards, 13 voter identity cards, 11 PAN cards, three e-Shram cards, three Ayushman cards and two ATM cards from the accused. Police suspect that the accused had been collecting identity documents from ordinary people for some time and using their details to obtain SIM cards in their names. The seized documents and SIM cards are being examined as part of the investigation. Police have launched a detailed probe to determine the extent of the alleged network and identify others who may be involved in supplying SIM cards to cybercrime groups.
