The animals were among 58 exotic animals of 14 species that had arrived at the zoo from Vantara in Gujarat just a few days ago. The exact cause of the meerkats’ deaths is not yet clear, and zoo authorities said the reason will be known after post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, another concern has emerged over a newly arrived female zebra, which has suffered a deep injury to its neck. It is suspected that the zebra may have been injured after hitting the enclosure fencing, though the exact cause is yet to be established. Treatment of the zebra is underway.
