Guwahati: Drugs Worth Rs 39.4 Crore Seized Near ISBT, Two Arrested

Guwahati Police intercepted a truck near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and seized drugs estimated to be worth ₹39.4 crore, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on August 13. The major seizure comes amid the state government’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and the movement of narcotics into Assam. According to the report, the operation resulted in the recovery of 10 soap cases containing heroin and 1,40,000 Yaba tablets. Two persons were arrested in connection with the seizure. The drugs were recovered after police intercepted the truck near the ISBT area in Guwahati. The seizure included a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets along with heroin, with the total estimated value of the contraband placed at ₹39.4 crore. Sharing details of the operation on social media , Sarma highlighted the scale of the seizure and the government’s continued efforts to prevent narcotics from reaching the state. “Mirror mirror on the wall, tell me how much drugs in all? ₹39.4 crore!” the Chief Minister wrote while announcing the recovery. The two arrested individuals are likely to be questioned as authorities seek to establish the source of the drugs, their intended destination and the wider network involved in the alleged trafficking operation. He described the latest operation as part of Assam’s continuing campaign against the illegal drug trade , stressing that such action is aimed at protecting young people from substance abuse. The latest recovery adds to a series of major narcotics seizures carried out by Assam Police in recent months. Security agencies have intercepted several consignments allegedly being transported into the state from neighbouring regions. Heroin and Yaba tablets have featured prominently in several of these seizures, highlighting the continuing challenge posed by interstate drug trafficking networks. The latest ₹39.4-crore seizure near Guwahati ISBT is being seen as another breakthrough in the state’s ongoing anti-drug operations. Authorities are expected to further investigate the network behind the consignment and identify other individuals who may be connected to the trafficking operation.
