Bhubaneswar domestic help arrested with 200gm gold, expensive sarees she stole from her employers

A domestic help allegedly turned into a serial thief in Bhubaneswar, stealing gold and silver jewellery , expensive sarees and several other valuables from houses where she worked. Chandrasekharpur police have arrested the accused woman and recovered around 200 grams of gold along with other stolen items, official sources said on Sunday. Police launched a detailed investigation following a complaint by Rashmiprabha Beura, a working woman living in the Housing Board area of Chandrasekharpur . According to the complaint, Beura and her husband, who is a businessman, regularly leave home for work. They had hired a domestic help through a private agency to assist them with household work and look after their children and elderly parents. The accused worked at their house for only seven days before leaving on the pretext of a personal reason. After her departure, the family discovered that gold jewellery and other valuables were missing. Police said the stolen items included around 200 grams of gold jewellery, expensive sarees , a costly watch and Rs 6,000 in cash. Tag On Ornament Leads Police To Another Theft Case During the investigation, police reportedly discovered that the same woman had allegedly worked at another house and was suspected of stealing valuables there as well. A tag attached to a silver item helped the investigators trace its purchase history. On being questioned, the owner confirmed that the item had been stolen from their house. Police have recovered gold and silver ornaments and other valuables from the accused. The case has also highlighted concerns over the verification of domestic workers, particularly in households with elderly residents or people who spend much of the day away from home. “I had kept a maid, hired through an agency, at my home for the last seven days, solely for baby care. She was staying with us for 24 hours. However, she left the job for her personal reasons, saying she would join somewhere else as a nurse,” the victim woman told OTV. “After a few days, when I searched for a gold ornament to wear, I learnt that several gold and silver jewellery items along with Rs 6,000 in cash had been stolen by her,” the victim woman added.
